You Do What You Have To - 59

Olivia Hummel did call, soon after Robin was asleep. Micky went into the hallway to talk to her and learned that Darren—or Gary, as she called him—would be at Swallows in an hour. "He'll be wearing a blue shirt, in case you don't remember what he looks like," she said rather snidely.

"Trust me," Micky replied, trying to sound excited at the idea of seeing Darren again, "I wouldn't forget, after such an interesting evening."

"I'm sure it must have been, for you to be so concerned about returning his wallet. He appreciates the effort."

I'm sure he does, and not in the way you want me to think. "He can thank me"—he pause a beat—"personally, later tonight," Micky replied, heading downstairs to join the others.

Ms Hummel chuckled. "I'm sure it will be very personal, knowing Gary." Then she hung up.

"I'm ready to do this," Micky announced when he entered the living room.

"What time?" Wren asked. He and Falcon were there. Hawk apparently had taken off.

"In an hour, according to Ms Hummel."

"Good. Hawk's already there, set up where he can watch the parking lot and the back door. Falcon's going to stay here with Robin."

"Okay. He just took his pills, so he should be out for the night. Thor's on the bed, with Robin's permission."

"Got it," Falcon replied, heading out of the room.

"How do we keep in touch?" Micky asked Wren.

"Don't worry. I'll be there and watching. If you need to, just text me. I hope you can do that without looking."

"Yeah."

"If I need to tell you something"—Wren handed him an earbud—"you'll hear me through this. Just don't react."

"Got it." Micky inserted the earbud. He did wince when Wren tested it. "Okay, I see what you mean," Micky commented. "At least now I know what to expect."

Wren chuckled. "Good, because the look of surprise was a bit obvious." He gave Micky a tiny microphone as well. "Clip this inside your cuff. It's powerful, so I'll be able to hear your conversation with Walker."

"And ride to the rescue if things go bad?'

"Me and Hawk. He's tapped into it, too. Okay, let's get going."

When they arrived in the area of the bar, Wren found a parking lot a block away. "If Walker asks where you parked—"

"I don't drive and he knows it."  Micky glanced around. "What if he, or one of Hummel's people, grabs me before I get to the bar?"

"There's too many people around for them to try that, and I'll be close by. My guess is, he's going to play nice and probably suggest you go to his place for an encore of the last time."

"Minus the shooting, I hope." Micky shuddered.

"Yep. Ready?"

            "Uh-huh."
