You Belong to Me – 88

Kerry laughed. “I’ll take that as a yes. So even though the two of you aren’t in a committed relationship yet, I’d say, knowing you, it might be in the offing. Especially since he’s coming to the wedding with you.”

“Which is going to be… interesting, to say the least.”

“Yeah, maybe. I’m still betting the folks take it in stride. Especially since Detective Reed—”

“Damn, Kerry, call him Scott. Okay?”

“Okay. As I was saying, the folks will deal, especially since Scott saved you from the stalker.”

“They know someone did, just not who. God, I thought Mom was going to come flying out here to be certain I really was all right when I called to tell them what happened.”

Kerry laughed. “She might have, if she hadn’t called to tell me about it right after you talked to them. I played dumb, was suitably surprised, and reassured her I’d call Foster to make sure you’d survived unscathed.”

“Thank you,” Corey said sincerely. “I don’t think I could have handled her right then.”

“I’m sure. Okay, we’d better cut this short. I have a bachelor’s party to attend.”

“Don’t let Phil make a fool of himself.”

Kerry snorted. “I’ll need luck with that. Do you want me to pick you up at the airport?”

“Sure. We get in at eleven Friday morning, which gives me time to get ready for the wedding rehearsal.”

“And….”—Corey could almost see the wicked smile on his brother’s face—“introduce Scott to Mom and Dad and Phil.”

“That too. At which point he and I might be taking the next plane back here.”

“Corey, have faith. It’s going to be just fine.”

“Damn, I hope so.”
