“Somehow I think the detective will be contacting me tomorrow—well, today—from what he said before he let me go,” Corey told Kerry.
“He had you down at the station?”
“No, thank God. He interrogated me at my place while the rest of the people were doing what they do. Then he told me to pack some things and move to a motel for the time being. Believe me, I had no problem with that idea.”
“I’m sure,” Kerry said with a chuckle.
“Do you think he’ll actually listen to me, and believe me?”
“If you tell him the truth, yes. He’s probably already wondering what you held back, which was a lot from the sound of it. Why didn’t you say anything to him about the stalker?”
“I was afraid if I did… that he’d think I was making it up because I killed Brad and came up with the story about the stalker because I planned the whole thing. Damn, Kerry, all I could think about was that Brad was lying on my living room floor in a pool of blood. Dead. So I told him what happened as far as going to the club was concerned. I just wanted the detective to understand that I wasn’t… that I couldn’t have killed him because I was at the club when he was murdered.”
“I hate to break this to you, but unless their ME is a wizard, there’s no way he can pinpoint the time of death within more than a couple of hours.”
“So I could have made it up about the stalker, killed Brad, then gone to the club afterwards is what you’re saying,” Corey replied angrily.
“I’m not saying that, but Foster might. Especially since you didn’t mention your stalker.”
“Yeah, I can see that, but I called the cops when the watch was stolen, and told them about the… the guy, I guess. Okay, I’ll call Foster in the morning if he doesn’t beat me to it. And, Kerry….”
“Yes?”
“Thank you. Thank you for talking to me, rather than telling me to get lost after you found out about… me.”
“No thanks needed. You’re my brother, no matter what, and I love you—no matter what. Got that?”
“Yes,” Corey said quietly. “Got it.”
Now he needs to do as told
