"It's a monstrosity," Ransom grumbled a week later. "I mean, come on, Allyn, eight bedrooms?"
Allyn grinned, moving the cursor to the next home on the real estate site.
"Nice, but too far out."
"Okay." Allyn continued scrolling. "This one?"
"Not bad. Not bad at all. But it doesn't have much property." Ransom looked worriedly at Allyn.
"True. This one?"
"Same problem."
"Ran, this is the city. We're not going to find a house set on an acre of land."
"Yeah we are," Ransom retorted, tapping the screen.
Allyn clicked on the listing. "You're right." Even though the house was in a residential area, it had a wide side yard with several trees separating it from its nearest neighbor on one side, and a tall privacy fence on the other. "Even comes with a pool," Allyn noted, smiling.
"God, whoever their decorator was, they should be shot," Ransom muttered when Allyn scrolled through the pictures of the interior.
"Well, I doubt the furniture comes with the house, so we're safe. Shall we call the Realtor to set up a visit?"
* * * *
"You're absolutely certain?" Allyn asked Ransom once they were out of the Realtor's hearing range.
They had looked at several homes, not just the one which had first caught their attention. Each time, they had found something that made them decide a specific house wasn't what they really were looking for. Now they were back to the one with the side yard and the swimming pool.
"I am, if you are." Ransom rested his hands on the railing of the balcony overlooking the large back yard, chuckling. "It's a hell of a lot better now that the furniture is gone."
"Agreed." Allyn rested against the railing, studying Ransom. "We've come a long way in an awfully short time," he said softly. "From my wanting to tell you to get fucked, the day you showed up at the house, to this."
"Are you happy?" Ransom asked, turning to look at him.
"I am. I never thought I'd meet a man I could love as much as I love you. Well—" he smiled, brushing a kiss over Ransom's lips, "—I knew way back then I had, but I thought it wasn't destined to happen."
"Fate has a funny way of making certain people who belong together, end up together, I think."
"Thank God for that."
